Interests

 I began taking Communication Design classes as part of my self-determined major in Fall 2023. These classes contributed to my success in the full design of my senior thesis, a 50-page collection of memoir stories and recipes titled I Can Make That. The book explores the connection between emotion, memory, relationships, and food and taste. Other design work includes a mock environmental initiative to protect American Burying Beetle populations (2024), and spreads for mock arts and literature magazine (2023).

Music has always been a love of mine. I played the drum kit for several years, and was in the ensemble for two musicals in high school: Mamma Mia! and The Producers.

Entering college, I missed participating in musical activities. I auditioned and was accepted into the campus found object drumming group, PULSE, as a sophomore, which reignited my love for percussion and performance in a more laid-back setting. 

My love for PULSE led me to take on the responsibility of Club Treasurer as a junior, and to be elected Co-President for my senior year. As President, I ran rehearsals three times per week, organize performances and collaborations with other clubs, and worked with the Student Government Association to discuss inner-workings.

Not only has music and drumming provided me with another creative outlet, but these activities have improved my leadership, collaboration, effective communication, and advocacy skills. 

I feel incredibly lucky to have had the privilege to travel to various places around the world throughout my life. My parents are hugely adventurous and encourage us to discover new cultures outside of my Vermont home as a family.

When I was eleven, my family spent eight months living in Taipei, Taiwan and traveling around East Asia. My sister and I were homeschooled by my mother—a seasoned educator—and as part of our schooling, wrote weekly entries in our family blog. Learning a new language, being immersed in a vastly different culture, and experiencing city living was one of the most valuable experiences of my life.

As a junior in college, I studied abroad in Milan, Italy. Living with a host family, learning a brand-new language, and navigating a new city as an adult contributed to my sense of adventure and independence.

Finally, I embarked on a solo backpacking journey to Vietnam right after graduation. This trip opened up my eyes to the joys of spontaneity, and proved to me that I could explore independently and make connections amidst the unknown.   

These travel experiences have given me invaluable memories, but more importantly, opened my eyes to new cultures and people, and broadened my world view.

As a child, I loved jewelry and beading, and grew to take Jewelry and Metals courses in high school. During 2020, in the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic, I re-discovered my love for hands-on creation. Without access to a jewelry studio, I began creating beaded necklaces, bracelets, and earrings as a form of self-expression through color and shape. In college, I participated as a vendor in the Tang Bazaar – a holiday student art sale.
